Hi, Joseph. I enjoyed this short. The action kept me engaged as I began to feel, truly feel for Gustav. OMG, how lonely. Wonderfully told.

I disagree that more was necessary. This wasn't about his wife or his job, and the story's intent was less to provoke pity than it was to allow a glimpse into human behavior. All humans grieve at one point or another; it is one of few things that binds us at our core. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

I found myself caught between the other 2 reviewers....feeling sorry for the old man and feeling like I was left hanging a little bit or had missed something. More about his wife would have helped. Overall, an interesting character study.

Sorry for the delay in my comment, but I've been behind in my reading - dratted work! This one left me hanging a little bit. I appreciated the shortness of the short story, but I found myself trying to turn the page when I got to the end b/c I needed a little more. I think a bit more about his wife or his job would have helped me.

This is a great characterization of the poor man. I felt sorry for him.
