Stupid hubris

March 11, 2008 by josephdevon · 1 Comment

My idea for next week’s story is odd. I was all excited because I got a decent idea this past weekend, mere days after finishing the previous story. This never happens. But it did and so I assumed I would have an easy time of things this go around. But the idea is really quite strange and frankly I’m not sure what to do with it. So now I’m getting worried. Also I’m very sleepy.

I knew I shouldn’t have let myself get ahead of myself.

In other news, over at Tim King’s blog, Be The Story, “Private Showing” has been decreed to not be crap. High praise indeed.

Hey, Joseph. True story: I had read your story over the weekend (even though I didn’t link to it until Tuesday). But one night after I read the story, I was up working very late. I slept in the next morning of course–I couldn’t help it–and I remember my wife was sleeping next to me. When I finally woke up, I realized that she had long since gotten up, but that her pillow was stuffed up next to me in bed. I thought that the pillow was her.

And I immediately thought of the man in your story, how he stuffed his wife’s pillows next to him in bed, so he wouldn’t feel lonely. And in that moment, I felt lonely myself, because all I had in bed with me were pillows. (It was the strangest sensation.)

Really, IMO that story’s a keeper. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
